Hardware & software installation
We recommend you to remove any previously installed sound cards and drivers prior to installing the CMP-SOUNDCAR21
to avoid any conicts.
If previously installed drivers are not removed, the CMP-SOUNDCAR21 may not function properly.
Note: If your computer has on-board sound you will need to disable it on the motherboard.
For more information to do so, please see your computer’s documentation or contact your computer’s manufacturer.
Installing drivers and card on Windows
®
2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7
1) Locate an available PCI slot on your computer and insert the CMP-SOUNDCAR21 into the PCI slot. Fasten the
CMP-SOUNDCAR21 to the PC case using screws.
2) Start your PC. Windows
®
will detect the sound card as a “multimedia audio controller” device.
Click the “Cancel” button to cancel the driver installation for the device at this moment.
The driver for this device will be installed in the next step.
3) Place the driver CD into the CD-ROM drive. Click the “Start” button on the taskbar and click “Run”. Type “D:\
SOUND\CMEDIA8738\setup.exe”. (Assuming you have placed the CD in CD-ROM drive labeled as D)
4) Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the software installation
5) Restart your system.
6) Once you have rebooted the computer, the CMP-SOUNDCAR21 is ready to be used.
Physical connections
The rear panel of the CMP-SOUNDCAR21 has the following jacks:
1) Line In (blue): Connect to the audio output port of stereo system.
2) MIC In (pink): Connect to the microphone (mono).
3) Front speaker (green): Output to speakers with amplifier or headphones.
4) Rear speaker (black): Connect to rear speakers while four/six channel speaker mode is enabled.
5) Center/Subw. (orange): Connect to the center speaker and subwoofer while six channel speaker mode is
enabled.
6) GAME/MIDI: Connect joystick or devices using MIDI interface.
This CMP-SOUNDCAR21 also has the following internal connection and jumpers:
The function
J2 Aux-in
J3 Analog CD/IN Port (signals: L-G-G-R)
J4 Analog CD/IN Port (signals: G-R-G-L)
J6 & J7 1-3 close Center/Bass channel in normal mode
3-5 close Center/Bass channel in inverse mode
Safety precautions:
Disconnect the product from mains and other equipment if a problem should occur. Do not expose the product to water or
moisture.
Maintenance:
Clean only with a dry cloth. Do not use cleaning solvents or abrasives.
